Medically Supervised Detox

What To Expect

What Detox is Like at New Dawn

New Dawn’s Detox Centers provides 24-hour care in gender separate, homelike settings. Our aim is to help each person’s detox and withdrawal management be as quick and painless as possible. We have a team of nurses, master’s level therapists, medical assistants, EMT’s, and on-call Physicians available around-the-clock. New Dawn’s Detox Center also has separate houses for men and women for added privacy and piece of mind.

Each house has no more than 6 residents, and private rooms are available upon request for an additional fee. Amenities include relaxing living rooms, dining rooms, wall-mounted flat screen T.V.’s in the bedrooms, full kitchens, comfortable mattresses, and fresh linens. Healthy nourishing meals are prepared daily by our culinary arts trained chef. Private backyard patios are a popular place to relax and make new friends during the medical detox phase.

Expert Care

The Medical Detox Process

Detoxification is the process of abstaining from drugs and/or alcohol and allowing the body time to be rid of these toxic substances so it can begin to repair itself. Detox is necessary when one has been using drugs or alcohol for such a long period of time that they cannot stop using without going through physical withdrawals. One can detox “cold turkey” on their own, but this is rarely successful and never recommended.

Life-threatening medical complications can arise during the withdrawal phase when not supervised and treated properly. Most of our patients at the detox center finish the medical program after 5 – 7 days. Residential treatment is the next step following detoxification because that is where individuals learn the coping skills necessary to stay sober.

What to Expect

Individuals typically experience the following symptoms during detoxification: extreme anxiety, shakiness, cold sweats, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, depression, irritability, fatigue, muscle aches, trembling, and headaches. Detox from alcoholism can also include life-threatening seizures, and should never be attempted without medical support.

Examples of drugs that we detox individuals off of include: cocaine, heroin, opiates, vicodin, oxycontin, percocet, methadone, suboxone, klonopin, xanax, ambien, somas, meth, amphetamine, club drugs, marijuana, and many other types of habit forming drugs. Our doctors are specially trained in addiction medicine, and have helped thousands of individuals safely and completely detox from drugs and alcohol.

Admissions Process: How to Start Detox in 3 Steps

Deciding to detox is the hard part. What comes after it should not be. Our admissions team answers the phone 24 hours a day, and most of the work in these three steps is ours, not yours.

  1. Reach out: Call us any time, day or night, or send us your insurance details through our free verification form. No commitment required.
  2. Benefits check and brief clinical screening: We confirm what your plan covers and walk you through a short, confidential pre-admission assessment. You will know what your coverage includes, and what you would owe, before you admit.
  3. Admission and arrival: We schedule your admission, often within 24 to 48 hours of your first call, help with travel details where applicable, and send a short packing list. Our nursing team begins your intake and comfort measures as soon as you arrive.

Your information stays confidential at every step. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or a finished plan before you call.

Dual Diagnosis

Integrated Mental Health Support During Detox

Withdrawal rarely happens on its own. Anxiety, depression, and trauma often surface the moment substances leave the body, and addressing one without the other tends to leave people exposed. Our detox program is built to work on both from the first day.

  • Co-occurring screening: We screen for anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health needs during intake, so your care plan reflects the full picture rather than withdrawal alone.
  • Integrated medication support: When it is clinically appropriate, our medical team manages withdrawal symptoms and coordinates psychiatric medications within one plan instead of treating them as separate problems.
  • Therapeutic support: Our licensed and master’s-level therapists use evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches, including Accelerated Resolution Therapy, to help reduce distress during withdrawal and prepare you for deeper therapeutic work.
  • Continuity into your next level of care: Your mental health plan follows you into residential treatment, PHP, or IOP, so you are not starting over with a new team and repeating your history.

Because we operate the full continuum ourselves, from medical detox through aftercare, the plan built during your first days with us is the plan that carries forward. That continuity is a large part of what family ownership has meant here since 1987.

Our Luxury Addiction Treatment

What Happens After Medically Supervised Detox?

While a medically supervised detox program will help ensure a safe cleansing of toxic chemicals from the body with withdrawal symptoms, detoxification alone does nothing to prevent a person from using again because it will not reduce the intense cravings. Drug and alcohol addiction is a life-threatening, chronic illness that requires intensive individual counseling and treatment in a structured setting.

At New Dawn’s Detox Center, all of our patients are strongly encouraged to admit into the residential treatment program immediately following their detoxification.

We offer 30, 60, and 90 day residential treatment programs with a focus on relapse prevention, family therapy, and coping skills. New Dawn has one of the only residential programs in the country that offers 30 days of free treatment if a relapse occurs within one year of graduation. We stand by the effectiveness of our drug & alcohol detox and rehab programs, and understand that relapse is a common occurrence among individuals recovering from drug or alcohol addiction.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Cost depends on your length of stay, the medications your withdrawal requires, and what your insurance plan covers. We are a preferred provider with most major carriers, and many plans cover a significant portion of medically supervised detox. We verify your benefits before admission and review what your plan covers and what, if anything, you would owe.

Detoxing at home can be dangerous, particularly with alcohol or benzodiazepines, where withdrawal can include seizures. Medically supervised detox provides 24-hour monitoring and medication support to keep you safer and more comfortable. If you have already tried to stop on your own and struggled, that is worth telling us when you call.

The safest approach is a medically supervised plan built around your substance use, health history, and risk factors. In practice that usually means symptom-targeted medication, monitoring by nursing staff, hydration, rest, and a clear step into ongoing treatment. No single method fits everyone.

Many people do, through our intensive outpatient and outpatient programs. Whether that's clinically appropriate depends on your withdrawal risk and home stability. If you need residential care first, we can discuss timing and privacy with you.

Most people complete our medical detox program in five to seven days. Your timeline depends on which substances are involved, how long you have been using, and how your body responds. Our team reassesses you daily rather than working from a fixed schedule.

Look for state licensing and independent accreditation, experienced medical and clinical staff, clear insurance answers before you admit, and a defined path into ongoing treatment. If gender-separate housing matters to you, ask about it directly. We are DHCS licensed and CARF accredited, we run separate men's and women's programs, and each of our homes accommodates no more than six residents.

Common signs include needing a substance to feel normal, withdrawal symptoms when you stop, repeated attempts to quit that did not hold, escalating use, and physical symptoms such as tremors, sweating, or shakiness. Seizures, confusion, or chest pain during withdrawal are medical emergencies and warrant a call to 911. If you are unsure where you stand, call us for a confidential screening.

When it is clinically appropriate, medication-assisted treatment can be part of your plan for opioid or alcohol use, and it can continue after detox as part of ongoing care. Our medical team reviews the options with you rather than assigning one. MAT is one tool alongside therapy and aftercare, not a replacement for them.

Detox addresses physical dependence. It does not address cravings or the reasons behind the use, which is why we strongly encourage stepping directly into treatment. Most of our detox clients move into residential treatment and then step down through PHP, IOP, or outpatient care, with aftercare and alumni support continuing after the program ends.
