In this blog, we’ll discuss the potential reasons why veterans turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with PTSD.
It’s no secret that many veterans struggle with addiction. In fact, it’s estimated that over 20% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans suffer from some form of substance abuse. Veterans often turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to self-medicate in order to cope with the symptoms of PTSD. While there are many treatment options available for addiction, many veterans are hesitant to seek help or go to rehab.

There are a number of reasons why veterans may be reluctant to seek treatment for their addiction. The first is the stigma that surrounds addiction and mental health issues. Veterans may feel like they are weak or broken if they admit that they are struggling. Second, veterans may not be aware of the resources available to them. They may not know where to turn for help or what kind of help is available.

We offer specialized services designed to meet the specific needs and challenges of veterans and service members, such as trauma yoga, trauma informed Equine therapy facilitated by a Licensed therapist, a weekly trauma therapy group facilitated by an LCSW, trauma based curriculum developed by TJ Woodward, Massage, Acupuncture, and daily Gym Access.
